Lincoln - One Month

It’s hard to believe that Lincoln is a month old already.  He has grown quite a bit.  We had a dr’s appointment last Monday at 3 weeks and he was already 8 lbs, 3 ozs and 20 inches long so a growing boy!  He has changed quite a bit too.  He's more alert and awake these days and i've seen him smile a few times which is so cute.  He was the perfect baby for about 2 ½ weeks and then he started to get pretty fussy and gassy especially at night so I decided to go ahead and try eliminating dairy from my diet since that seemed to help with Wyatt.  I was really hoping to not have to go through that again but I would definitely rather get more sleep at this point and have a happier baby than eat whatever I want.  Lincoln also has no interest in a pacifier which is something new since his brothers were obsessed with theirs.  We've tried giving him a bottle a couple of times and it didn't go so well so here’s to hoping we can get him to take a bottle before I have to go back to work.  Enjoy some new pictures over the last few weeks.  Next week Ryan has to go to Chicago for work for a few days so it should be interesting taking care of the three boys on my own.  I’m sure I’m going to be one tired mama once he returns considering that I’m up most of the night with Lincoln right now and Wyatt’s new thing is to get up every morning around 5.  Here’s to hoping it goes better than expected J.

Wyatt - 2 1/2

It’s been awhile since I've given an update on the older boys and now that Wyatt’s 2½ he has changed quite a bit.  He’s gone from our laid back go with the flow little guy to mister independent.  He definitely wants to do everything himself which makes things a little difficult when its stuff that he can’t really do yet like buckle himself in his car seat.  He is such a sweet and funny little guy but he has definitely entered that terrible two stage and tries our patience every day.  We are working on trying to use our words more when he gets frustrated vs. hitting/biting and Ryan and I are working on not yelling as much too when we get frustrated to try and be better role models.

He’s still an incredibly messy eater.  It doesn't really matter what you give him he gets it all over his face, hands, clothes, table, chair, floor you name it.  Although Ryan tells me that he was still spilling things on himself into his teenage years so maybe it’s a useless cause to think that someday we won’t have such a mess to clean up.

Wyatt loves books and playing with Gavin.  Although they have their moments where they fight over a toy or don’t get along overall they play together pretty well and Wyatt can definitely hold out his own if they do get into a tussle.  Some of their favorite things to play are pretending to be spies, hide and seek and playing battle with the superheroes/dinosaurs.  Wyatt has also really gotten into puzzles and is getting better about putting together the bigger board puzzles and has started showing more interest in watching shows on tv.  He will actually sit still and watch a show now and some of his favorites are Super Why, Go Diego Go and anything about animals.

One big change for Wyatt recently has been his big boy bed.  We've had it set up for about a month now and he’s been sleeping in it for a few weeks but it’s definitely made the bedtime routine more difficult.  He likes to get out of his bed so right now we basically have to stay in his room until he falls asleep or he pops right out and runs downstairs.  The other downfall is that within the last several weeks he’s decided to wake up consistently between 5 and 5:30 every morning and he just gets right out of his bed and comes into our room ready to go for the day.  We are not a big fan of this early morning routine but there’s no talking him into sleeping longer.  Hopefully this doesn't last forever as it’s no fun for us especially during the weekends.

Even though he tries our patience every day we love this little guy so much.  He is super goofy and is always making us laugh.  Even his teachers tell us what a goof ball he is sometimes.  He’s working on learning his letters and it’s amazing how grown up he seems.  Everyone always thinks he’s already three because of how much he talks and what he says.  Our next adventure with Wyatt will be potty training.  He’s wearing pull-ups and has done a pretty good job of using the potty at school but isn't super consistent at home.  We just need to find a good weekend to go cold turkey and I think we’ll be there but finding that time with a newborn is a little hard at the moment.

Lincoln - 2 weeks

It’s hard to believe Lincoln is already two weeks old.  We had his first doctor’s appointment last Monday and he had already surpassed his birth weight and was weighing 6 lbs 13 ozs.  We have another weight check next week and I’m anxious to see how much he weights.  So far he has been such a good baby.  He hardly ever cries and seems pretty easy going.  We are working on adjusting to being a family of five.   The mornings and bedtime are the hardest but the boys have been great around their brother and love to help out and hold him.  We are very thankful to be in Iowa and so close to both sets of grandparents who have graciously taken the big boys for a day or two to burn some of their energy while giving us time to rest and get things done around the house.  It has been a huge help and the boys have loved getting to spend the extra time with grandma and papa.
