2 weeks

I can't believe that Gavin is 2 weeks old today! This past week has flown by. Over the weekend Gavin got to see Grandma and Grandpa Springer again and got to meet Derek, Jenny and cousin Will. He also got to meet Roxy for the first time. They seem to be getting along well although Roxy still doesn't know quite what to think when he's crying. Ryan went back to work this week so it's just been me and Gavin at home during the day. Ryan was such a huge help over the past two weeks. We definitely miss him during the day and can't wait for him to get home in the evenings!

Gavin had his 2 week appointment on Monday and he is doing great. He is a great eater and already weights 9lbs 14ozs! Overall he's a pretty happy baby as long as he's full and has a clean diaper. When he is awake he is very alert and taking in everything around him. Here are a few new pictures. You can view more by clicking on the Picasa link.

One Week Old!

I can't believe Gavin is already one week old today! We have had so much fun with him and find ourselves just watching him to see what new facial expressions he's going to do next. Gavin ventured out of the house for the first time yesterday since leaving the hospital. We had an appointment with a lactation consultant and also made a trip to babies r us. Our appointment went great. Gavin is doing a great job feeding. The goal is to have him get back to his birth weight within 2 weeks. When we left the hospital he weighed 8lbs 9ozs and when they weighted him yesterday he was already back up to 9lbs 3ozs. We have another quick appointment on Friday to check his weight again to make sure he is still making progress but so far he is doing great. Yesterday Ryan and I also gave him his first bath. It was quite the experience but i think he enjoyed it. I included a few pictures below. You can also click on the picasa link on the right to view some more new pictures.

Welcome Home!

Gavin got to come home from the hospital yesterday around 3 and we're all happy to be home. Gavin got to meet Grandma and Grandpa Reynolds and Jen, Jason and cousin Avrie. We've been enjoying our time at home although our first night was a little rough. Sleep was hard to come by but we are getting into more of a routine and Gavin is doing great today. Even watched his first Iowa State basketball game! Keith and Jan are watching Roxy so Gavin won't get to meet her until next weekend. This has been a huge help and it will be interesting to see how Roxy reacts to the new addition.

Here are some new pictures!

Gavin's second day

It was a busy night last night with not a lot of sleep (I'm sure most will be like that for awhile). So today the three of us rested up between feedings. Gavin had another good day and Nicole is doing great. Enjoy the pictures!

Gavin's First Afternoon

Gavin has had a great first afternoon and we'd like to thank everyone for all the well wishes. Grandpa and grandma Springer got to stop by for a visit and Gavin's looking foward to meeting everyone else. Gavin has a strong cry and likes to use it when he doesn't get his way. The nurses have been helping us get his feedings down and Nicole's been doing an amazing job. I even got to change his first diaper with a little help from the nurse. Thanks again everyone for all the well wishes and comments and we should get some more pictures up later tonight or early tomorrow.

PICTURES!

IT'S A BOY!!!

Gavin Thomas Springer is here and he is huge! He came in at a weight of 9 lbs 6 ounces and 21 1/2 inches long. We got in a little early and he was born at 11:53 this morning. Nicole did an awesome job and her and the baby are resting comfortably right now. Pictures will be posted shortly.

The day is here!

It's 9:20 on the big day and we're getting everything ready to head out to the hospital around 10:30 or so. The C-section starts at 12:30, but we'll have some preliminary activities starting at 11:00 or so. Here's the last belly pic of Nicole before the big event. Hopefully, we'll have a chance to update the blog again once or twice before the baby arrives and definitly check back later for pics of our new addition!

Last day of pregnancy!

We had our doctor’s appointment this morning and the baby is doing great. The NST and fluid all looks great the problem is that after the ultrasound the baby is measuring at 9lbs 4ozs! Although there is a margin of error with the ultrasound results we wanted to weigh on the cautious side and have a c-section scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. I really didn’t want to have a c-section but because of the potential size of the baby and the potential risks for the baby that come with delivering naturally we went with the c-section route which our doctor strongly encouraged. It’s crazy to think that we are actually going to have a baby tomorrow. I think Ryan and I are both still trying to comprehend it and are nervous and excited at the same time. We have a Pre-Admission appointment this afternoon to go over all the details for tomorrow’s big event. Ryan will be updating the blog tomorrow with all the details once the little one has arrived so stay tuned.

Due Date

So today is my due date and still no baby! I'm not really that suprised since I haven't really had many contractions at all and really think that I am going to end up having to be induced. We have a doctor's appointment tomorrow and should know what the plan is after the appointment. Hopefully we'll get lucky and will be able to schedule a date to be induced this coming week and not have to wait another week. Ryan and I are getting very excited to meet our baby and find out if it's a boy or girl. We'll keep you posted!

Dr's Appt.

We just got back from the doctor’s office and I didn’t exactly get the news I was hoping for. My dilation is progressing which is good and I am now between a 3 and 4 but not having regular contractions to actually put me into labor. I was hoping that if I didn’t go into labor by Sunday that we could just schedule a time to be induced next week but they are really hesitant on inducing prior to 41 weeks unless there is a good reason for it so if I’m still pregnant I have an appointment scheduled for Monday morning to do a non stress test and ultrasound and then based on those results they will decide what the plan is. My doctor is on call Tuesday so hopefully we can just plan on being induced on the 13th and not have to wait another week. My doctor estimated that the baby is probably around 7 ½ - 8 pounds which is a little scary especially if I end up having to wait another week and a half. I guess we’ll see. Hopefully my contractions will pick up and we can have a baby this weekend :).

39 weeks!

I thought I would post an update since we’ve had several people ask if there’s any baby news. Unfortunately I’m still pregnant. We were really hoping the baby would come sometime over the weekend but no luck. I think the doctor just got our hopes up by making us think it would come early so now the waiting is killing us! I am definitely to the point where I am ready to not be pregnant anymore. It’s hard to get comfortable with this big belly and I pretty much don’t sleep much anymore between the million bathroom breaks and lovely hip pain. I’m definitely also getting tired of all of the attention I’m getting everywhere I go :). It seems like everyone either has to stare or make some sort of comment. The other day Ryan and I were at Nebraska Furniture Mart and were looking at an Iowa State bean bag chair when a man walked up to him and said I just have to give you a high five. Ryan said oh are you a cyclone fan too and he said no for her and pointed to me and said nice work I’m proud of you. How embarrassing!! Then we were walking into Best Buy and some guy behind us was like are we going to be having a baby in this store?!?! I told Ryan apparently I just need to be locked up in our house because I draw too much attention when I go anywhere in public :). The joys of being pregnant and about to pop!

On a side note Ryan and I were able to enjoy the nice weather we had here on Saturday and took advantage of our time by going out to dinner and to a movie since it will probably be awhile before we will be able to do that again. We saw Slumdog Millionaire which is a great movie. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to see a drama. I have another doctor’s appointment on Wednesday so hopefully we will have a better idea of what the plan will be if I don’t go into labor by Sunday which is my due date.

The countdown is on…
