Dentist

Gavin had his second visit to the Dentist today and he did amazing! Such a big boy! I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but he did great. Still wanted me to come back with him which I expected but he sat in the dentist chair for the first time and actually got his teeth cleaned and flossed with all the tools. The dentist and hygienist were amazing and made him feel so comfortable and we got a great report on his teeth. He got to pick out a special prize at the end and a new toothbrush and then I took him for a special treat before heading to school for being so brave.

On a side note ever since Wyatt heard me tell Gavin over the weekend that he was going to the dentist he has been obsessed with wanting to go to the dentist. To the point where he was even throwing a fit because he wanted to put his shoes on and go immediately. I tried to explain to him what the dentist means but it doesn’t seem like he got it. I would love to know what he thinks ‘going to the dentist’ means as it is a huge struggle right now to get him to brush his teeth. We basically have to hold him down and force him to let us do it while he screams, so no fun for any of us. So I know he does not really want to go to the dentist but this kid is adamant. He event woke up at 5:30 yesterday morning asking about going to the dentist and it was the first thing he said again this morning lol. I thought about bringing him along with Gavin so he could see what the trip was all about but decided against it because I wasn’t sure how Gavin would handle it and thought it might be a little tough dealing with him and Wyatt.

Crazy Night

So we had somewhat of a traumatic first last night. Gavin was acting pretty tired last night when he got home from school and just wanted to lay down which is pretty rare for this kid. His nose was pretty runny and right before bed he felt really warm so we gave him a little motrin hoping he wasn’t coming down with anything. He woke up around 10:30 kind of crying a little bit with some coughs and I could tell on the monitor that he kept wiping his nose so Ryan went in with some Kleenexes and a glass of water to hopefully settle him back down. The next thing I hear is a frantic Nicole so I come running down the hall and see the poor boy covered in blood everywhere. Apparently he had got a bloody nose and it was honestly the worst I had ever seen. This poor kid was still half asleep as Ryan and I are freaking out trying to determine what to do with him while blood is gushing out of both his nostrils. Finally we picked him up and took him to our bathroom so we didn’t wake up Wyatt. We ended up calling the on-call nurse because his nose just would not stop and it was really freaking us out that it was just gushing out of both sides for about 15 minutes. I think when it comes to your kids you always panic and don’t want to underestimate anything. Luckily we finally got it to slow down and got some good tips from the nurse if it was to happen again. We didn’t want to put him back to bed until it had stopped completely which was around midnight poor guy! Ryan ended up sleeping in his room for a couple of hours just to make sure it didn’t happen again since the nurse said it would possibly happen several more times. Thank goodness it didn’t because the next step would be to hold his nose closed for 10 minutes straight and if that didn’t work and it kept happening to bring him in. I think we’re both hoping that that never happens again but at least if it does we know what to do at this point and thankfully Wyatt slept through the entire ordeal.

Although speaking of Wyatt, he decided that Gavin couldn’t get all the attention last night and decided to wake up around 3am shouting for Diego from his room. After a couple minutes of not calming down I decided to go in there because I was afraid he would wake Gavin up. Usually he’s really good if he wakes up and gets upset you can go in there and get him settled back down pretty quickly but lately he’s been really fighting bedtime and there was just no reasoning with this two year old. He kept requesting Diego which he is recently obsessed with. It’s pretty hard to make a 2 year old understand that he can’t watch Diego at 3 am in the morning. I tried everything to lull him back to sleep: singing a song, playing music, cuddling with his blanket, rocking and everything I tried he just said no signing, no music, no blanket, no rocking.. he’s become quite demanding these days. Finally I resorted to bribery because I was out of options and really wanted to get back to bed. I told him that if he went to bed he could have a special treat in the morning hoping that he would forget all about it. Well that worked and he reach right for bed and thankfully we didn’t hear a peep out of him until a little before 6 but of course the first thing out of his mouth this morning was treat. I guess there’s no fooling this kid!

Here's to hoping tonight has a little less drama :).

Happy Feet

This post is a little late as Gavin has already finished his session of soccer but better late then never J.  We tried soccer with Gavin last year about this time through the YMCA and it was kind of a diaster.  It was very un-organized, lots of standing around which Gavin did not have the patience for and by the time we got around to the games he was totally over it and it became a battle just to get him to go.

We told ourselves that it was going to be awhile before we tried another sport but then I got an e-mail about a Happy Feet league starting up in January and asked Gavin if he wanted to play soccer again and he seemed really excited so we decided to give it a try.  If you are wanting your kids to try soccer Happy Feet is definitely the route to go.  We had such a great experience and Gavin had such a good time.

It’s a smaller group of kids and the coaches are trained specifically to work with kids.  They make all the drills into games so it’s fun and the kids are constantly moving the entire time.  Although Gavin was never very aggressive he had a lot of fun running around after the ball and did almost score a goal once.

I think it also helped that a couple of his friends from school were on one of the teams so he enjoyed getting to see them as well.  Overall it was a really good experience and we will definitely be signing him up again.

Exciting News

Big changes for the Springer household in 2013.

As the pictures show we will be moving from a family of 4 to a family of 5 come August! I am due August 28th and just hit my 14 week mark on Wednesday. I had my doctor’s appointment today and got to hear the baby’s heartbeat for the first time on the Doppler. What a beautiful sound!! This pregnancy has been rough on me for several reasons and not just because it’s my 3rd. I knew as soon as I had Gavin that I wanted three kids. Ryan took a little more convincing but we had decided not too long after Wyatt turned 1 that we were ready to work on expanding our family. Unfortunately it took a while to get pregnant and I suffered two miscarriages along the way which I’ve never experienced before.

This experience definitely puts things in a whole new perspective and I honestly feel for anyone that has ever gone through this experience. It really prevented me from enjoying the beginning of this pregnancy at all since I was just waiting for the day when it would happen again. I just kept praying that everything would be fine and slowly counting the days until I hit 9 weeks and was able to confirm everything was ok during my first appointment. Unfortunately when I was about 8 weeks along I started bleeding quite a bit and it just happened to start on Gavin’s birthday of all days. I scheduled a doctor’s appointment for the following Monday but both Ryan and I had a bad feeling and just knew that it was happening again. I think both Ryan and I were in complete shock and speechless when we saw our little baby up on the screen with its little heart beating and realized that everything was ok. I knew we weren’t out of the clear yet but at least everything looked good so far.

Even though I had been pregnant for a while it was like I truly had just found out because I wouldn’t allow myself to get attached or really let myself feel anything prior due to my previous experiences. It was also right about that week that I was hit with the pure exhaustion that comes along with the first trimester as well as some pretty bad nausea on and off that lasted until a few weeks ago. Although it wasn’t very fun it was at least a reminder that things were most likely ok and moving in the right direction. Now I’ve moved into the second trimester and am feeling much better and just adjusting to how quickly my belly has grown this time around. I’m allowing myself to worry less and put faith in God that everything is going to be ok. Ryan and I are truly so thankful for the opportunity to have another baby and just continue to pray for a healthy baby!

This is a picture of our little bean at 9 weeks. We told the boys after this appointment and Gavin fell in love immediately which melts my heart. I think it helps that his teacher at school is pregnant and one of his friends mom’s just had a baby but he loved seeing the picture and went to school and told everyone about the baby and that it was the size of a grape. I have since learned that you should wait to tell your preschooler news until you are ready for the world to know since his teachers found out a little earlier than I was hoping but that’s ok :). He is also convinced that he’s getting a little sister and that we should name her Charlotte or Riley. We’ve told him that he might get another brother and I think he’s ok with that too but tells everyone it’s a girl lol. I think Wyatt’s pretty clueless at this point but he does say baby when he see’s the picture.  Stayed tuned for belly shots and gender news.  We decided that we are finding out the gender and if all goes well should know sometime in early April.
