Happy Feet

This post is a little late as Gavin has already finished his session of soccer but better late then never J.  We tried soccer with Gavin last year about this time through the YMCA and it was kind of a diaster.  It was very un-organized, lots of standing around which Gavin did not have the patience for and by the time we got around to the games he was totally over it and it became a battle just to get him to go.

We told ourselves that it was going to be awhile before we tried another sport but then I got an e-mail about a Happy Feet league starting up in January and asked Gavin if he wanted to play soccer again and he seemed really excited so we decided to give it a try.  If you are wanting your kids to try soccer Happy Feet is definitely the route to go.  We had such a great experience and Gavin had such a good time.

It’s a smaller group of kids and the coaches are trained specifically to work with kids.  They make all the drills into games so it’s fun and the kids are constantly moving the entire time.  Although Gavin was never very aggressive he had a lot of fun running around after the ball and did almost score a goal once.

I think it also helped that a couple of his friends from school were on one of the teams so he enjoyed getting to see them as well.  Overall it was a really good experience and we will definitely be signing him up again.

Exciting News

Big changes for the Springer household in 2013.

As the pictures show we will be moving from a family of 4 to a family of 5 come August! I am due August 28th and just hit my 14 week mark on Wednesday. I had my doctor’s appointment today and got to hear the baby’s heartbeat for the first time on the Doppler. What a beautiful sound!! This pregnancy has been rough on me for several reasons and not just because it’s my 3rd. I knew as soon as I had Gavin that I wanted three kids. Ryan took a little more convincing but we had decided not too long after Wyatt turned 1 that we were ready to work on expanding our family. Unfortunately it took a while to get pregnant and I suffered two miscarriages along the way which I’ve never experienced before.

This experience definitely puts things in a whole new perspective and I honestly feel for anyone that has ever gone through this experience. It really prevented me from enjoying the beginning of this pregnancy at all since I was just waiting for the day when it would happen again. I just kept praying that everything would be fine and slowly counting the days until I hit 9 weeks and was able to confirm everything was ok during my first appointment. Unfortunately when I was about 8 weeks along I started bleeding quite a bit and it just happened to start on Gavin’s birthday of all days. I scheduled a doctor’s appointment for the following Monday but both Ryan and I had a bad feeling and just knew that it was happening again. I think both Ryan and I were in complete shock and speechless when we saw our little baby up on the screen with its little heart beating and realized that everything was ok. I knew we weren’t out of the clear yet but at least everything looked good so far.

Even though I had been pregnant for a while it was like I truly had just found out because I wouldn’t allow myself to get attached or really let myself feel anything prior due to my previous experiences. It was also right about that week that I was hit with the pure exhaustion that comes along with the first trimester as well as some pretty bad nausea on and off that lasted until a few weeks ago. Although it wasn’t very fun it was at least a reminder that things were most likely ok and moving in the right direction. Now I’ve moved into the second trimester and am feeling much better and just adjusting to how quickly my belly has grown this time around. I’m allowing myself to worry less and put faith in God that everything is going to be ok. Ryan and I are truly so thankful for the opportunity to have another baby and just continue to pray for a healthy baby!

This is a picture of our little bean at 9 weeks. We told the boys after this appointment and Gavin fell in love immediately which melts my heart. I think it helps that his teacher at school is pregnant and one of his friends mom’s just had a baby but he loved seeing the picture and went to school and told everyone about the baby and that it was the size of a grape. I have since learned that you should wait to tell your preschooler news until you are ready for the world to know since his teachers found out a little earlier than I was hoping but that’s ok :). He is also convinced that he’s getting a little sister and that we should name her Charlotte or Riley. We’ve told him that he might get another brother and I think he’s ok with that too but tells everyone it’s a girl lol. I think Wyatt’s pretty clueless at this point but he does say baby when he see’s the picture.  Stayed tuned for belly shots and gender news.  We decided that we are finding out the gender and if all goes well should know sometime in early April.

Snow day

So Kansas City finally got some snow!  It started Thursday morning around 8am and by 10 we already had about 5 inches.  We ended up with about a foot overall which is more snow than we've had the last 2 years combined!  Althought it ruined a few of our plans we did have fun spending a little extra time with the boys during our snow day.

We had cuddle time on the couch watching cartoons.

Read lots of books and did lots of coloring.

Made lots of fun messes.

Finally got to use our new snow boots and play in the snow!!

On a side note, both Ryan and I are super sore from having to shovel.  I guess it shows how out of shape we are!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

The boys had so much fun celebrating Valentine’s day.  Gavin has been counting down the days all week until his class party.  They loved getting to sort through all their valentines from school when we got home and opening our little gifts for them some treats and a Superhero Squad book for Gavin and Elmo movie for Wyatt.  It was definitely a sugar rush that night as Gavin managed to sneak several more pieces of candy than he was allowed.  It was a fun night that lead to a major meltdown Friday morning.  Apparently Gavin woke up and told Ryan that I promised him he could have some candy if he slept in.  Luckily this time Ryan checked with me first as this was not said and I think Gavin got a little embarrassed that he got caught and a huge crying fit ensued because of this and the fact that he wasn’t getting any candy.  Luckily he got over it after about 15 minutes and we ended up having a pleasant drive to school but for a minute I was about ready to chuck all the candy after that little fit J.

2 & 4 year check ups

We had the boys annual check-ups today and they both got glowing reports and are growing boys!  Below are their stats:

Gavin - Weight - 40lbs (90%), Height - 42 1/4 in (90%)

Wyatt - Weight - 29lbs 6ozs (75%), Height - 36 in (90%)

Wyatt also transitioned to his new two year old room last week and it has gone amazing!  I was a little worried because he was very attached to his old teacher but he surprised me by acting like it was no big deal.  He just walked right into his new room and sat down and started eating breakfast like such a big boy and we've continued to get good reports that he's had a great day.  This week he's also been paci free during nap time.  Next step bedtime :).

Wyatt's birthday party

We headed back to Iowa to celebrate Wyatt's birthday with family.  Keith and Jan hosted the event and Jan made a wonderful dinner.  Derek and Jenny were even able to come down for the weekend and the boys loved getting to play with their cousins.

Opening presents got a little hectic.  Wyatt had lots of little helpers but he did a great job and got a lot of great stuff!

We did a Thomas theme for his party and I had Stacy make him another birthday cake.  She did such a great job and the cake was amazing.  I get the mom of the year award for accidently getting my 2 year old trick candles, whoops!  If only we would have gotten that on film with Wyatt, Gavin and Ryan all trying to blow them out :).

Two of his favorite gifts.  An elmo doll from Derek and Jenny and a rocking horse my dad made.

Wyatt turns two!

It's hard to believe my baby is two already!!  Wyatt is such a sweet, lovable little guy. He’s very easy going and good natured. It’s kind of crazy because he went from saying small phrases to now being able to hold a conversation and if you ask him questions he’ll actually think about it and then provide a real answer.  Just shows how quickly he's growing up.

He still loves books and loves pulling all the books off the bookshelf. Really any toy for that matter!  Another one of his favorite games is a game that Gavin made up called hot lava where they pull all the pillows off the couch and then can’t touch the ground because it’s hot lava. We can’t go downstairs without playing this game at least once!

He is such a funny boy lately. Everything makes him laugh and his giggle is so cute.

He loves to dance and stretch. We’ve been having lots of dance parties lately and he’s picked up some new moves. Anytime a song comes on tv he’s up and dancing :).

He loves trains and Elmo. Every day going to school he always wants to go the choo choo way so we can past the train tracks and hopefully see a train. He also still very much loves Elmo. We got lucky and Sesame Street Live was in Kansas City the weekend before his birthday so we thought we’d take the boys for an early b-day present. We weren’t sure how he would do since he does not sit through movies at home but he loved it and still talks about it.

Still loves food and is still a super messy eater although he hasn’t been throwing his plate/cup on the floor anymore so hopefully we are moving on from that stage.

And most of all... loves his brother and wants to be just like him.
