Honeycreek Resort

Last weekend we had a little vacation with my family at Honeycreek Resort on Lake Rathbun in Iowa.  It was really nice and we had a lot of fun.  I took off Friday and headed up to Osceola on Thursday night with the boys.  My first long trip by myself and thankfully they did great in the car!  Then we headed over to the resort Friday morning and spent all day Friday and Saturday and headed back on Sunday.  We went to the beach for a little bit on Friday and then headed to the indoor water park.  They have a nice adult/big kid area and then a perfect zero-entry pool for little kids with a water slide.  Gavin loved the water slides.  I kind of forced him to initially go down the big orange one but once he did that’s pretty much all he did the entire time we were there.  My dad, Jess and Ryan showed up that afternoon/evening after work.  Saturday we headed to the park in the morning, the boys went golfing in the afternoon and then we celebrated my dad’s birthday and had more fun at the water park and grilled some yummy food.  It ended up raining some Saturday night/Sunday so we never got a chance to take my dad’s boat out but everyone had a great time.  Gavin loved getting to run around and be crazy with Avrie and Wyatt and Rush had fun getting into trouble themselves.

Here's some pictures of the trip.

Iowa State Fair

We headed back to Iowa on Sunday and got to spend some extra time with Derek, Jenny and their kids.  Gavin loved getting to play with his cousins and we headed up to the fair on Monday for some fun!  It was the perfect weather. My dad and Jess met us up there and we also ran into my grandparents so it was great to see them.  We didn’t realize they were having a parade for the veterans when we first got there and ran into my mom on stage with the governor supporting the veterans.  Gavin even got up on stage and waved them on for a little bit with Grandma.  Then we headed to see all the baby animals and biggest animals.  Wyatt loved seeing all the animals.  His favorites were the horses and baby goats.  After some site seeing we stopped to eat lunch and watched some cute kids perform on stage.  Gavin went to town on the food and ate a huge piece of pizza, half of Ryan’s fries, finished Will’s fries, ate part of Addy’s corndog and drank a huge chocolate milk.  Then he decided it was time to be super silly and stated a dance party.  It was so funny and he busted out his new move grabbing his crotch.  Not sure where he got that one.  I got the tail end on video but wish I could have captured more because it was hilarious!  We got to see Jen for a few minutes while she worked her booth and I even got to chat with a couple of friends from college who were in town.  We didn’t last too long after lunch though because I think Gavin hit his food coma and was ready to go and we had to head back to KC that afternoon.   It was such a fun trip and I’m always sad to leave since it never seems long enough!  Luckily we have another fun trip planned in a few weeks to look forward to.

Superhero day

We planned on going to the zoo today because it was supposed to be a little cooler than usual and boy did we luck out because it turns out it was also Superhero day.  Gavin got to meet both Capitan America and Spiderman.  He was on cloud 9!  Both boys also loved seeing the polar bear, snakes and riding the train.

18 months

We had Wyatt’s 18 month check up this morning and he is right on track. Still 95% for height (34 ½ inches) and 75% for weight (27 lbs, 8 ozs). He did really well during the appointment and luckily there were no shots this time. It is amazing to me how much he has grown up just over this summer. He is definitely a little boy now. He talks all the time and definitely has an opinion. He loves being outside which is tough with the awful temperatures and it’s hard to explain that to an 18 month old who just runs to the door and screams outside, outside, outside all the time but we try to get out when we can. He loves going down the slide at the park, swinging and swimming in the pool. He is not afraid of the water at all and now that he has a little life jacket that he wears in the water he just kicks up his legs and floats on his back and tummy and giggles because he loves it. Much more advanced than his brother who is still pretty cautious when it comes to the water. The other day he even basically took a backflip into the kiddie pool and apparently loved it because he walked right over to the stairs and wanted to jump in again. I think he’ll be jumping in the big pool next year.

He still loves food but is a very messy eater and half of it always seems to end up on the floor or in his lap. Some of his favorites are banana’s, blueberries, strawberries, cottage cheese/string cheese and hot dogs. Still loves Elmo and knows most of the other characters as well. He also loves reading and would probably sit on your lap for an hour and read books if you let him. Some of his favorites are Brown Bear, Brown Bear what do you hear, Elmo Says and any book with farm animals. He also knows almost all of his body parts and loves pointing them out especially the nose, eyes and tongue.

Wyatt is still very active and very ornery. He knows when he’s doing something he’s not supposed to and he will just look at you and start laughing or run away and then go right back to doing it. Silly boy! He wants to be just like his big brother and tries to do everything he does but wants to do it all on his own. He is also super lovable and loves to give hugs. He just loves Gavin and any time Gavin is crying (usually because he’s in trouble) Wyatt will immediately run over there and give him a huge bear hug. It is so sweet! I’ve also heard that he loves to randomly go around and hug all the kids at school too. And he loves Roxy.  Not so sure she loves him back yet but she is very good with the boys because lately Wyatt has gone from gentle petting and pulling to also wanting to give hugs which basically ends up being a type of body slam.  See below, Roxy's eyes are saying save me lol.

Love

These little boys just love each other so much.  I turn around and see them doing this all the time and it just makes my heart melt!
